CMSA PORTFOLIO OF LEARNING

HOW AND WHEN TO COMPLETE THE PORTFOLIO

Follow these instructions, download the appropriate pages from this website and include them in your portfolio.


PRESENTATION OF THE PORTFOLIO

Loose pages are not acceptable. Each portfolio must be contained in a ring binder with sections separated by thumb tabs labelled as follows.

Rather than download and use the unwieldy CMSA document, we have separated the different pages and made them available for individual download from our website. For ease of use and assessment, we require Registrars to file their portfolios in the order specified in the following paragraphs.

Registrars who already possess partly completed portfolios need not rewrite any pages, but should separate and file the pages as set out below.


AT THE START OF YOUR REGISTRAR TRAINING PROGRAMME

Download each of the following documents and insert into Sections A and B of your ring binder.

PART A. INTRODUCTION AND PERSONAL INFORMATION

Download Portfolio Part A Introduction and Personal information and insert the pages into Part A of your binder. Supply the required information.


PART B. RECORD OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Download each of the following files and insert the pages into Part B of your binder. As each page becomes full, you can download an extra page from here and inert that too.

Download Portfolio Part B1 Cumulative record of rotation.. As you enter each rotation, update this page.

Download Portfolio Part B2 Academic Presentations. As you do formal case or topic presentations, update this page.

Download Portfolio Part B3 Teaching Activities. Here you record the formal and informal teaching you provide for the benefit of others. Keep this page updated.

Download Portfolio Part B4 Postgraduate educational activities. Keep this page updated.

Download Part B5 Conference presentations . Keep this page updated.

Download Portfolio Part B6 Research Methodology and Project. Complete this once you have attended the Research Methodology workshop and as your MMed project progresses.


PART C. EXAMINATIONS AND PROGRESS

Download Portfolio Part C1 Record of Examinations and place in Section C.

PART E. PROCEDURES LOGBOOK

Download Portfolio Part E Record of Procedures. Keep these pages updated as you advance through the programme.

AT THE START OF EVERY NEW ROTATION

(General Medicine, Special Unit or other)

Update your Cumulative Record of Rotation (PartB1).

Download Portfolio Part D1 Learning Objectives for Rotation and complete it. Use the opportunity to set out your own intentions and objectives for that rotation. If you are wise, you will chat to one of your consultants about what you should achieve during the rotation.

Remember to update your List of Procedures and other forms regularly.

BEFORE THE END OF EVERY ROTATION

In the last week of the rotation, or as soon as possible thereafter:

Download Portfolio Part D2 Summary of experience during rotation. Complete this form before seeing the Unit Head or Supervisor.

Download Portfolio Part D3 continuous assessment at end of rotation.Make an appointment to meet your Head of Department or Unit or the person designated to perform registrar assessments. Bring both forms to the meeting. Ensure that you receive an honest discussion and objective feedback on our performance.


Registrar Feedback

Download a Confidential Rotation Evaluation form. complete this and return to the Department.

SEMI-ANNUAL REVIEW REVIEW

You will meet a senior member fo staff for a Download Portfolio Part C2 Semi-Annual Review  and place in Section C.

Ensure that all portfolio entries are up to date.

Make an appointment to see the HOD or Training Supervisor to discuss progress.

WHEN APPLYING TO THE CMSA TO REGISTER FOR THE PART 2 EXAMINATION

Ensure that all portfolio entries are up to date.

Fill in the totals of all the procedures you have performed on the appropriate page in Part E.

Download the Portfolio Section 9 Exit declaration (1), complete it and have it signed by the HOD and place at the fron of your portfolio. Review your portfolio with the HOD, obtain a signature and submit to the College.
